it’s that time of year
when poetry swirls
orange, red and gold
through the air
when a white squirrel
digging through the leaves
is as crisply visible
as a white farmhouse on a hill
resting into the still-green earth
marked against a tremendously
deep blue sky
it’s that time of year
when dark brown bark
burns beneath halos
of red, gold and orange
when dissatisfaction
is noticed to be
working without being of benefit
and importance is given not to a
vacuum in space, but to the
ceaselessness of space
and our place in it
it’s that time of year
when, with hair tucked behind ears,
birds soar in v’s and
the murmur of crickets
is replaced by the whisper of settling leaves
when hawks wheel and cry
and loneliness of coldness sets in
only this year, it is still warm
and the ants are burying their dead
it’s that time of year
when life’s assessment begins
rolling in with harvest pumpkins and corn
succulent browns, reds and golds
nurture the air
and i can taste the decay
when i finally begin again
to look both inside
and beyond
to decipher my days
it’s that time of year
when confidence sways
like the willow branch beneath the galloping wind
when the white spike of a church steeple
rests sharply against the soft and varied
hues of an autumn hillside
red, greens and god
i am swept up
into the raging currents of air
the scent of water buoying me
its that time of year
when ducks flock
and seagulls wheel
when the lawns are littered with leaves
and the children come home laughing from school
when the power of wind and water prevail
and earth and fire wither for a while
when beauty is bent into new shapes
and confusion is tasted and spent
breathless with release

Hey. I believe we met after Khandro Rinpoche's talk in Cambridge a few weeks ago. I'm the student at Harvard Divinity interested in doing a field ed at the Shambhala Center.
Thank you for your friend request. I really like your page and your poem. In Australia you don´t get that autumn feeling - maybe in Tasmania but not where I have lived, but in Germany where I grew up I felt it and loved it. But maybe you ment it more as metaphor.....It inspiring regardless. Hope to chat with you more, have creative exchanges maybe, but now I have to go to work. Dharma Blessings

Right, now I'm back to work with this forum! I'd love to make some new friends and network with Buddhists in Boston or Buddhists coming to Boston. Check out the group Boston Meditates! Join it!
Hello Sarah, My name is Moona. From your photo it looks like you have been in Tibet! True? I love your poem. We are currently in Germany - will be returning to Australia soon - but at the moment I am enchanted by the autumn colors here! How did you get to join Engaged Buddhists? I received an invitation - don't know from whom, but hey, I like it!
