Hi All,
Where ever we are, may we continue with our practises, deepening our insight, mindfulness, compassion and wisdom, day by day. This is the way to equilibrium and non-suffering.

We are creating a virtual network of engaged Buddhists from different traditions and lineages in South Africa. The goal is information sharing, strategy discussions, and looking at the interface between Buddhists, the State and faith civil society

I read your rant on the Mahayana and was greatly saddened to see that you have taken such a negative view of the Dharma and have such disdain for the Mahayana. Your "facts" are not really facts at all and have close to nothing to do with a Chinese either, did you know that there are many pali sutta comentaries and abidharmas in the chinese tradtions? Did you know that they have many non Theravada hinayana suttas and abidharmas too? What is your point? If you want to take a look at the facts then lets look. True, the Mahayana sutras only seem to appear in history around 1AD with the advent of Nagarjuna and co. In defence of the Mahayana I think you should read his works to find if there are any discrepancy's with his mahayana and the non mahayana (not to be confused with the Theravada). Then lets look at the works of the Mahayana them selves mostly the Prajnaparamita sutras or they fake, do they contridict the dharma? And last and not lest there are quotes in the Sutra but the Buddha Gotama that say that if some one speaks words that are the same in essence and meaning as his hown then it is the true dharma and can be counted as the words of the buddha.
Anyway who are you saying are the one TRUE dharma holders? You don't think the Theravadas add their bits too?? Take a look at their dates for abidharma... and some other sutta collections... dear friend you should read more on the matter before trashing a whole tradition.
I think that contrasting the Mahayana and the bodhisattva path with the mormons is a low and very much uncalled for blow, and is quite unbecomming of a Dharma practitioner. Also if you have taken the Vow of a Bodhisattva - which as far as I know you have- I think you should think quite carefully the result of slandering the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
You should be old enough a practitioner to know the difference between the Dharma and a Dharma organization and a personal drama! The last two are subject to unenlightened emotion and kelsha gallore- this requires some honest introspection on your behalf. If you have a problem with the sangha you ordained in or the ethnicity of that sangha then speak on those terms, don't go around dragging the whole tradition too!!! It is unskillful and frankly quite childish.
Tibetan Buddhism is a synthesis with the Bon religion. Tibet was the last country that buddhism came to after it had gone to south-east Asia, China, Japan, korea, etc. That is why it is so different. If this is what appeals to you - go for it
the Kitten is fine, but as Terry Pratchett says:
It's all about Style, cats have style. If they looked like a frog we'd see what cruel little basters they are and never allow them in the door!
The poor little samsaric creature is always killing things!!!
