What a fascinating discussion! I know it's been over a year since the last reply, but I'd love to learn more about any other observations you may have made since then. I'm planning on applying for a Fulbright fellowship to South Africa next year to…

Hey Ben Le

Greetings from the UK. I lived with Master Hui Re at the Elegant House at Nanhua for about 7 months. My Dharma name is Ben Jue. I spend 5 years at Nan Hua. I'm sure you know Kathy Monaco(Miao San) well she is now here with me in the UK. Are you still with Ven Hui Re? Could you be so kind and pass on my warmest greetings to him from Robert (Ben Jue) I hope he still remembers me.

Where about is Ven Hui Re now?

Hi Ryan, it very likely is yes. They've been having problems with for for more than a year now. the monk who originally designed the site went into a solitary retreat, and has only just come out, and to tell you the truth, i think the last thing he wants to do after a years uninterrupted meditation is get online again! :)
But there is someone who will fix it soon, in fact he's one of the members of this wonderful online community.

Hi Ben Le - I love your page here. How is the kitten doing at Ch'an Lin, or has it been adopted by someone in the meantime?

About Me:
I'm a novice monk (Sramanera) who lives with his Master, Venerable Hui Re at the Honeydew Dharma Centre. I work as his translator (from Chinese to English) and try to keep the Buddha's name on my lips and in my heart from sunrise to sunset, and then sunset to sunrise. But I usually only manage when I'm sitting on my bottom with my eyes screwed tightly shut in the Buddha hall meditating with our little sangha.

We work for the Amitofo Charity Association, administering to a Buddhist run orphanage in Malawi, and soon one in Zimbabwe, as well as other's that will be under construction in the next year.

The end is the beginning is the end

An era has ended, and another begins.

We have left the temple that brought us together, so that we can climb out the box, think open, create something greater.

It is not easy, but no-one said it would be.

There are many changes, now and in the future. The way we do things will change. Where we do it has changed.

Right now we are all scattered, doing different things in different places, fro one purpose.

Nothing happens without a cause.

Yesterday one of Master Hui Re's students posted a very interesting post on our African Pureland Blog (http://dharmainafrica.blogspot.com/2008/02/what-is-african-buddhism.html)

It addresses a very important question: What is African Buddhism?
If we, as a hopeful African sangha want to develop the Dharma on this breathtaking continent, we need to know what we're doing, and why. Nothing happens without a cause. If we are just groping in the dark, we can expect nothing but muffled shuffling noises… Continue
