Thus I have heard once as the Master Hui Re gave his teachings on generating Bodhichitta (a brief summary of a teaching on 20 April 2008):

1 Always maintain the characteristics of a Bodhisattva

Remind yourselves that selfishness is not the characteristic of a Bodhisattva. In this regard you should think of yourself as a Dragon (the most ferocious beast known to man) in the Ocean (who rules a vast domain), rather than a frog in a pond (who rules a tiny realm). You should therefore as a practitioner generate the thought to benefit ALL people and not only some.

2 All the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas call you to their rank

3 Develop a lot of compassion for other sentient beings so that you can take away their suffering.

Compassion is the first step towards becoming a bodhisattva. One need to develop loving-kindness by;
(i) Experiencing it;
(ii) Wishing others to be free from suffering;
(iii) Put loving-kindness into place I your life.

4 Have vigour!

Work life after life to relieve suffering of other sentient beings, but despite the amount of suffering one should not give up showing compassion and loving- kindness.

The Powers that helps one to generate Bodhichitta

First power – your own heart; the strong wish to experience it.

Second power – assistance of a (i) teacher and the (ii) Buddha (Amitabha). It will let you become like a tiger with horns. Very strong indeed.

Third power – Power from the past due to karmic imprints.

May everybody be happy;
May everybody be well;
May everybody progress
