South Africa with Metta

Dear Dhamma friends,

Hey, this is working. I created this forum when I joined up here, and already we are now six. You will also see that Annie Leatt and Peter Just are connected on this site. Annie and I have known each other for years. We are friends who happen to follow different lineages of the Buddha's path. We felt that as we were both activists, and that our activism is shaped, enhanced, constrained and illuminated by the dhamma, that there may well be others like us.
We are making an outreach, using email buddhistsa@gmail.com to reach other Buddhists who apply dhamma in social justice and social action.
One of the areas of possible cooperation is on the creation of provincial Religious Leaders Forums. I am helping out with the Western Cape RLF, and Peter is supporting the National structure. You may be interested in supporting your provincial structure.
There are many other avenues for joint action, or at least sharing moral support. Feel free to use the Forum discussions below, and welcome your friends.

Yours with metta

Burmese / Myanmar courts have condemned democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi to another 18 months incarceration. See the Avaaz petition to the US government: http://www.avaaz.org/en/jail_the_generals/?cl=294772133&v=3768
As you know, our own government has an unhealthy relationship with Myanmar and the People's Republic of China, which lead to a vote to protect the Burmese Junta from UN sanctions and blocked His Holiness the Dalai Lama from visiting South Africa in 2009. If any of you are motivated, it would be good to organise a concerted interfaith message to the Zuma government that the Junta's treatment of democratic leaders is unacceptable to South Africans. Comments welcome.

Hi All,

Where ever we are, may we continue with our practises, deepening our insight, mindfulness, compassion and wisdom, day by day. This is the way to equilibrium and non-suffering.
