Hi, Kris, and all Australian Buddhists,
I have been to the future makers site, good work!
I dont live in Sydney, but in FNQ (Cairns). Last week I saw a disturbing documentary about the sea between Japan and China. It abound with huge Jelly Fish!!!! Since all the small fish have been taken out through human overfishing and pollution the brainless jellyfish thrive and are becoming bigger and take over the water!!! I guess in the long run there will be only humans, cockroaches and jellyfish in this world.

Hi to the Australian Buddhist group

just letting you know that the film I made last year called The Future Makers about solutions to global warming is going to air again this week, during the day. I made this as part of my Buddhist practice- being of service doing what I do best. It is also being screened at the Powershift conference in Sydney incase you live there. Details below. Please feel free to forward it on. Many thanks!

Hope you are well
best regards
Kris

THE FUTURE MAKERS

“An exciting snapshot of the emerging sustainable energy industry in Australia” - Sara Phillips, G Magazine.

THE FUTURE MAKERS tells the story of key Australians leading the way on the world stage in renewable energy. Some are designing a future based on models in nature. Others are creating a sustainable energy model for a 21st C economy. People creating solutions that won't cost the earth.

Co-produced with Discovery Channel and Screen Australia by independent film-makers; director Maryella Hatfield, producer Lisa Duff and editor Kris Syrmis, this documentary shows what’s happening now to create a clean energy landscape for our future.

A finalist for Discovery Ignite , an initiative giving independent filmmakers in Australia and New Zealand, the opportunity to pitch documentaries for local co-production -

THE FUTURE MAKERS encores in July on Discovery Channel.

Tuesday 7 July at 9.30am
Thursday 9 July at 12.30pm
Sunday 12 July at 8.30am

The film will also be screened followed by a Q and A session and panel with the director and scientists at the POWERSHIFT CONFERENCE on Saturday 11 July. Organisers say 3000 young people will gather in Sydney over this weekend, for the biggest youth climate event Australia has seen.

An apology is a good start, but only if the heart changes and feels remorse for wrong-doings might there be any change. Barack Obama has been voted president of the USA, maybe this will bring about some change in attitudes. I hope so. May peace and happiness abound

Hey Lizzie and Moona.

Rudd's apology was a necessary one, after 11 years of National Socialist policies brought in under John Howard. Those policies have got to stop.
So far, Labour has managed to barely do anything at all. The intervention, WFTD, Disability Employment Network, AWAs, etc. need to changed.

The apology doesn't change anyone's lives or livelihood. What it does do is open the gateway for forgiveness and mutual understanding. It's from there that peace can happen and the country can prosper. There's a lot to be done, and a lot to be undone.

My name is Shane (Giac Dinh) and I am part of the english group that goes to Upeksa Village every fortnight. It's a nice place.

It's also on wikimapia.org. :D

I was interested in Rudd's apology after he got in to power. I lived in Sydney for 5 years in the 1980s and I was appalled by the casual and all pervading racism towards the indigenous poeple. Having come from NZ where we were working on righting wrongs and acknowledging past hurts, this was deeply shocking and I felt complicit simply because I lived there. I was not Budhist then so did not know what to do other than ignore it (blame my youth!) becazue it was too hard to look at. Anyway ... to my question ... how do you think the apology has changed Australia? Do you think it was a fundamental and irrevocable change of direction that means the Australian people will change too or do you think it is largely a political 'plaster'? I'd appreciate your thoughts from the inside.

Of course you can! I now live in Cairns and there are so many people from NZ here! Would like to go and visit NZ again one day as well, but there are so many places to visit in the samsara of this world. So really the best thing is still to sit and go within.

Hi Ross and Moona. I am a fraud because I actually live in NZ. Don't hate me! Can I please be a token Aussie?
Moona Perrotin Comment by Moona Perrotin on March 31, 2008 at 12:45am
Hi Ross, remember me, we exchanged some comments earlier. We have now returned to Australia and live in Cairns. It is lovely up here and there are Buddhists about. Like Khacha Yuloling a Tibetan group with Lama Choedak Rinpoche as leader. Dominique, my husband, is thinking of starting a Thien group (Truc Lam Zen). He joined engaged buddhists yesterday. One Person whom I contacted via engaged Buddhists has joined the Upeksa Village meditation group in Adelaide and may become the co-ordinator in our absence. That is a very positive outcome from this venture. Now how do you envisage Australian Buddhists to work? I'll add this comment and then I'l go to your page. Hope to hear from you soon. Moona
